The Sea Notes Choral Society, a non-profit organization, exists so that its members may experience the joy of singing great choral music and the satisfaction of singing for our community.

The primary purpose and aim of Sea Notes Choral Society is to:

  • Provide opportunity to develop individual and collective talents, both technically and interpretively.
  • Provide anyone of kindred spirit with the same opportunity to find joy, growth and satisfaction.
  • Contribute to the community’s cultural vitality through the performances.

Singing for Southport since 1974. We are a collective voice dedicated to the artistic enrichment of Southport, North Carolina.

A History of the Sea Notes Choral Society

Founded in May 1974 for a Brunswick County Bicentennial fundraiser, the Sea Notes Choral Society has grown into a cornerstone of the coastal North Carolina arts scene. Based in Southport, the group balances masterworks of the choral canon with popular community programs.

Versatile Repertoire

  • Holiday Classics: Holiday concerts are a cornerstone of the group’s history, featuring everything from traditional carols to contemporary arrangements of winter classics.
  • Civic & Patriotic: A fixture of the NC Fourth of July Festival since 1974, the group also performs for naturalization ceremonies and local landmarks like the Ingram Planetarium.
  • Light & Broadway: Their “lighter side” features Gospel, Folk, Barbershop, and Disney classics.

Milestone Timeline

1974 Organized in May; debuted at the Southport Woman’s Club Holiday House.
1976 Performed I Love America, a staple repeated for decades.
1996 Collaborated with Brunswick Little Theatre for Fiddler on the Roof.
2001 Led “Operation Flag Waving” after 9/11, raising over $16,000 for the Red Cross.
2004 Toured Europe, performing in historic venues across Salzburg and Munich.
2008 Staged the popular “Swinging Through the 50’s and 60’s” program.
2019 Explored the “Magical World of Disney” from Pocahontas to Pinocchio.
2022 Returned post-pandemic with “Sing, Sing, Sing,” a medley of Big Band and Broadway.
